Our staff are committed to providing a well-balanced and challenging curriculum, as well as supporting students’ academic and social development.

Pastoral Support
Our pastoral system is designed to give you friendly support and professional guidance throughout your time here.  Each student is assigned a Personal Tutor and will become a member of a tutor group which meets regularly.  Here you will make new friends and explore all kinds of topics such as study skills, health matters, current world issues and personal career ambitions.

Careers
A purpose-built  pastoral and careers suite houses large rooms for group discussions, Tutors` and Careers Advisers' offices for individual interviews and a well-resourced careers library.  The department has also achieved the National Quality Standards in Careers Education and Guidance Award, fully meeting all the Gatsby Benchmarks.  Careers education, information, advice and guidance provision was deemed 'outstanding'.

Our Career Advisers, together with C&K Careers, are on hand to give individual help. Information is readily available about courses (HE & FE), apprenticeships and employment opportunities, student finance & gap year projects. Visits to universities  and careers conventions are organised. A careers fair, '[email protected]' for all students & parents/carers is held annually as well as a comprehensive and varied series of careers-related lunchtime talks. Mock interviews are available for all A2 students. Employability & post-18 planning are key themes in the many careers lessons delivered via the tutorial programme.

Additional Learning Support
We are committed to supporting students with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) and actively promote a policy of inclusion; all students are encouraged to make a full contribution to college life.  Our aim is to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where there is shared commitment to value diversity, empower students and facilitate successful progression.  Prospective students are welcome to contact the ALS Manager, Claire Berry, for further information .

Study Centres
The Study Centres are designed to provide an additional work space for students to complement existing facilities in College.  They are fully staffed and offer structured packages of generic Study Skills including personal organisation, time management, note taking and proof reading.  In addition, lunchtime sessions are provided at key points in the academic year to support UCAS and PaWS applications and revision schedules.

Progress Reviews
Throughout your time at College, your parents/carers will have the opportunity to attend Parents' Evenings where they can speak to your subject teachers and Tutor.  They will also receive an invitation to an Information Evening for Parents of New Students soon after you start College and a Higher Education Information Evening.

College Counsellors
The College employs a team of skilled professional counsellors who offer a confidential service.  It is a friendly service with welcoming rooms.  Our counsellors aim to offer support and help to explore any issues and how to make changes or develop useful strategies.

What makes us different?

Greenhead College is one of the best Sixth Form Colleges in the country. We are proud of our reputation and value our ethos of placing students at the centre of everything we do. Our expectations of students are high but you’ll receive the very best in academic and pastoral support during your time as part of the Greenhead community.

According to new government measures of success at A Level, we are one of the top Sixth Form Colleges in the country. National education tables published in January 2019 now include data showing high student grades in key academic subjects valued by leading universities, as well as ‘value added’, which indicates student progress made since GCSE. In both categories Greenhead was the top-performing designated Sixth Form College in Yorkshire and the Humber.

At Greenhead we aim to ensure all students complete their course successfully and develop into well-rounded and confident young people with a life-long passion for learning. We also help foster an interest in the wider world and the welfare of others. The College has a warm and purposeful atmosphere stemming from the excellent working relationships that exist between staff and students. You will be treated as an adult and valued as an individual, allowing you to fulfil your full potential.
