The Music department occupies purpose-built accommodation with specialist teaching and practice spaces adjoining a fully equipped recording and composing suite.
The department works closely with Opera North, the Halle Orchestra, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Kirklees Music Service in arranging and attending performances and workshops throughout the academic year.

Students will follow the EDUQAS specification which focuses on the three main areas of performing, composing and appraising.
In addition to the Music Curriculum the department offers Associated Board Grade V theory preparation and examination, as well as the opportunity to study advanced theory up to grade 8 and preparation for ABRSM diplomas. There are varied extra curricular opportunities leading to public performances and a bi-annual Music tour.
This course is linear with examinations being taken at the end of the two years of study.
The College gives priority to its 11 partner schools. Places are offered to other applicants on a competitive basis.
All prospective students must achieve a minimum of grade 4 in GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics, and a minimum of grade 6 in three GCSE subjects.
Prospective Music students must have Grade V in an instrument (you must be able to read music) and Grade V in Theory is preferred but not essential.
