This course provides an opportunity for those who have an interest in the visual arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating and demanding and provides a supportive transition from school to further or higher education.
This course in Art & Design (3 A level equivalent) has been designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to degree level study in the creative industries, into further education and training or into employment. The structure of the qualification, will allow you to combine newly acquired practical skills with theoretical knowledge and understanding to explore your ability and ambition and the particular characteristics of a broad range of art and design disciplines.
You will be encouraged to recognise not only the unique characteristics of different disciplines, but also the dynamic and potentially innovative relationships between those disciplines, particularly in a technologically driven environment.
The qualification will require you to develop a coherent and effective working practice, through immersion, reiteration and reinforcement, enabling you to react positively and creatively across a diverse range of assignments and creative activities.
The first year of the course is diagnostic in nature, and develops the basic skills in:
•Painting and Drawing,
• Fine Art
as well as in the use and application of both new and existing technology.
These skills are then used in the second year to develop a more personal practice, which will not only provide support through the final year, but will underpin further creative and personal development.
The programme ends with the Final Major Project. This conclusion will require you to demonstrate the capacity to initiate, research, analyse, organise, reflect and evaluate. The course sets out to improve your use and understanding of visual language, and support personal and creative development. This will provide the basis for your next steps into further study or employment.
