Overview

Start Dates: September, January and March

Are you embarking on a career within the heavy vehicle industry?  This apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to study for valuable City & Guilds vocational qualifications and Diplomas and give you the chance to brush up on your Functional Skills in IT, English and Maths.

Auxiliary electrical units and components
Chassis units and components
Inspection of vehicles
Good housekeeping
Health & Safety
Maintenance of positive working relationships

Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C.  This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

How will it be delivered?

Continuous assessment in College and at work.

Entry requirements

You must be in full-time trade-related employment. You will also need 4 or above English and Maths qualifications. If you do not have these, we can assess your current level of skills in English and Maths.

Further study in Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Vehicle Maintenance at Level 3.

Employment as a motor vehicle mechanic/technician.
