This programme is for those working with babies and/or children aged 0-7 years in a childcare setting such as day nursery, school foundation unit, children’s centre or as a child minder or nanny.
What you will study
The Early Years Educator Level 3 is made up of 17 units, 64 credits.
These cover areas such as Child Development, Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity, Planning and Supporting Children’s Play and Learning.
You will also need Maths and English at GCSE, Grade 9-4 or A-C, or equivalent functional skills, by the time you have completed your apprenticeship. We will help you via workshops to achieve these. Likewise, you will need to attend training to achieve functional skills in IT if you don't have qualifications in this.
You will be allocated an Assessor who will assess you in your workplace by observing you carrying out your daily tasks and duties. You will be required to answer written/oral questions and record what you do at work. You will study EYFS regulations as they are applied in practice and will be required to carry out child observations and planned activities.
This qualification is both assignment and coursework-assessed by your Assessor. You should also be given some time off during your working week to complete your college work.
You will need to pass exams in English, Maths and IT if you don't already have GCSEs in these subjects.
You must be working in a nursery, crèche or Children's centre, or as a childminder or nanny. This may be as an employed member of staff. For Level 3 you need to be in a supervisory role. We will look through the criteria of the course with you to check you are in a suitable role to enable you to complete all areas of the course.
We will assess your Literacy and Numeracy skills on enrolment so we can offer you the correct support and guidance.
Your next stage could be a foundation degree.
The Early Years Educator is the most up to date qualification for Level 3 childcare workers. You could work in a variety of settings with young children. To be counted as a qualified member of staff you need to also have GCSEs Maths and English grade A-C, 4-9 or equivalents.
